About This Call
The Farm to Forest Plein Air Festival will be held October 10-13, 2024 in Alexandria, Louisiana at the Alexandria Museum of Art (933 Second Street, Alexandria, LA 71301). The festival is open to artists 18 and older working in 2D mediums. Entry fee is $55.00, and artists must submit 2-3 samples of plein air work completed within the last 3 years.
The festival schedule includes artist check-in and a Quick Paint Challenge on Thursday, October 10; free paint sessions with museum art drop-off on Friday and Saturday; and a Palette Party and Awards Ceremony on Sunday, October 13. All artwork must be completed during the festival event and stamped with the AMoA Farm to Forest Plein Air stamp. Artists may paint at suggested daily locations or anywhere within Central Louisiana (Rapides, Avoyelles, Grant, and Vernon parishes). Materials allowed include canvas, panel, paper, copper, and wood boards of any size (up to 4ft wide), with acceptable mediums including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, gouache, ink, and pencil.
Art sales are split 70% to the artist and 30% to the museum, with artists setting their own prices. Cash awards include First Place $1,000, Second Place $750, Third Place $500, and People's Choice $250. The Artists' Choice award is a ¼ page ad in Plein Art Magazine. Housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Artists are responsible for their own transportation, framing of works, and shipping or picking up unsold works after the exhibition.
