About This Call
The Bonnaroo Works Fund in partnership with Arts at the Airport seeks proposals for 4 temporary public artwork Bonnaroo-themed displays at Nashville International Airport (BNA). The displays will be suspended from the ceiling in skylights located in airport concourses on the secure side of the terminal from June 5, 2024 to April 7, 2025. There are 4 skylights total: 1 on Concourse B and 3 on Concourse C. Each application is for one skylight, and artists will be assigned to a specific skylight after selection.
Each selected artist will receive a $4,500 honorarium, 2 General Admission Weekend Passes to Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival (June 13-16, 2024), and 1 Car Camping Pass. The ideal project should be of highest artistic quality in any media and inspired by the principles of the Bonnaroovian Code. Projects should incorporate creative elements such as iconic Bonnaroo festival elements (Arch, Fountain, Fire Tower, fan atmosphere, infinity symbol), focus on recycling/sustainability/global consciousness, the Bonnaroovian Code (Prepare Thy Self, Play as a Team, Radiate Positivity, Respect The Farm, Don't be that Guy/Gal, Stay True Roo), and themes of resilience and optimism. The full Bonnaroo brand logo may not be included.
Sculptures must not exceed 300 lbs and must be site-specific or adaptable to the skylight dimensions. The skylights have glass panels open to exposed sky with no UV protection, so artists are responsible for selecting materials that can withstand sunlight, high temperatures, and suspension for up to 11 months. A written installation plan must be included with the application, detailing weight, material composition, support points, and verification that the sculpture has been suspended at the artist's studio for two weeks with photo documentation. Projects may not include elements requiring electricity or maintenance after installation. Applications must include a résumé (maximum 2 pages), 7-10 images of previous work and visual representation of the proposed skylight, and a written site-specific proposal (maximum 3 pages) with artist statement, biography, dimensions, weight, installation plan, and explanation of material resistance to UV light and high temperatures. Selected artists will be notified March 22, 2024, with delivery and installation May 20-June 3, 2024.
