2024 Art on the Avenue - Public Art Call

Art on the Avenue (AOA) is Manitou Springs' public art program, administered by Creative Alliance Manitou Springs (CRANE). Each year, the program displays new rotating sculptures, places new murals, and works to increase Manitou's public art collection. In 2024, CRANE will install 3 sculptures on 2-year contracts and 1 permanent mural.

Selected artists will receive $2,000 per sculpture or $3,000 for the Creekwalk Mural. All selected artists are eligible for additional awards: $1,500 CRANE Art Excellence Juror Award and $1,000 People's Choice Award. The program is open to artists over 18 years of age nationwide. Artwork will be selected by a jury panel comprised of the Public Art Committee of CRANE, with artistic merit as the primary criterion. Secondary criteria include installation logistics, maintenance and safety concerns, and inclusion of diverse media and perspectives.

AOA is exhibited outdoors in Manitou Springs and subject to extreme sun, strong winds, freezing/moisture, and rapid temperature fluctuations. Three sculpture sites are available: a 24" x 24" pedestal at Ruxton Roundabout (max height 11'), a 24" x 24" pedestal at Shoshone Spring Pocket Park (max height 48'), and a 30" diameter pedestal at Seven Minute Spring Park (max height 11'). One mural site is available at the Chamber of Commerce Building (approximately 7 feet by 7 feet). The artist must apply a protective coating and graffiti resistant coat to the finished mural and provide their own supplies. Applicants must submit 1-3 images, a description of proposed work with dimensions and weight for sculptures, an installation plan with engineering specifications, resume/CV, and artist statement or website link. Entry fee is $10. Submission deadline is May 1, 2024. Selection notification will be sent May 21, 2024, with installation occurring June-August 2024.
