About This Call
The mission of Art in the Heart of Farmington, NM is to promote sculpture as a public art form that enhances Downtown Farmington and promotes artists from the four states of New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Utah. Up to 12 sculptures will be chosen by a juror to be displayed for up to one year and made available for sale. Selected artists will receive a minimum of $500 honorarium based on distance traveled, lodging for two nights, and are invited to attend an artist's reception in Farmington, New Mexico.
Artwork will be evaluated based on artistic excellence, timelessness, permanence, compatibility with the Downtown Farmington area, and public safety. All art must be an original creation by the artist. Sculptures must have structural and surface soundness, be resistant to theft, vandalism, and weathering, and require minimal maintenance as this is an outdoor public art exhibit.
Eligibility is open to artists from New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. Each application requires a minimum of three and a maximum of five images and may include an optional video of the same piece of art. Applications must include an artist's statement, resume or CV, and information on the sculpture including title, materials, dimensions, weight, special installation requirements, value, and sales price. Each artist may submit up to three applications at $25.00 per application. The entry deadline is January 31, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artists will be notified of their selection status the first week of February 2024. The juror is Fredrick Prescott, a fellow artist from the Four Corners region known for larger-than-life, brightly colored, solid-steel sculptures.
