2024 Art in the Door

Destination Door County is seeking 2D artwork submissions from Midwestern artists for the annual Art in the Door 2024 competition. Four winners will each receive $2,000 and have their work featured in Destination Door County's marketing throughout the year.

Artists should submit work based on one of five selected feelings that Door County, Wisconsin inspires: Thrill, Tranquil, Charmed, Enchanted, or Awe. Pieces should capture the essence of the chosen word as illustrated by the landscape, people, and overall ambiance of the destination. Submissions must be original 2D artwork in vertical (portrait) or square format with a minimum dimension of 8"x10". Accepted mediums include watercolor, oil, pastel, pencil, acrylic, collage, and multimedia. All portfolio works must be dated 2017 or later.

Applicants must submit a digital portfolio of 5-7 representative works, clearly designating one piece as the "Entry Piece." An artist statement (maximum 500 words) and a short statement about the entry piece and its relevance to the call (maximum 200 words) are required. The jury will evaluate submissions based on artistic excellence and workmanship, appropriateness of theme, and appropriateness for use on marketing materials. Winning artworks, including frame, title, and copyright, will become the property of Destination Door County. Eligibility is limited to artists ages 15+ who reside in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, or South Dakota. The submission deadline is April 22, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Finalists will be notified May 16, 2024, with public voting from May 22-June 5, 2024. Winners will be announced June 12, 2024, and winning original artworks are due June 26, 2024.
