About This Call

Crown Gallery at Metro Art Studios in Bridgeport is seeking proposals from curators for an art exhibit to be held from November 9, 2024 to January 11, 2025. The gallery is particularly suited to large installations and conceptual art, as well as more traditional art forms. A $300 stipend will be paid to the selected curator.

Proposals must include a curatorial statement explaining the focus and concept of the exhibit, a minimum of 3 artists, and 10-20 images of work planned for the final exhibit (examples of similar work are acceptable). All work in the exhibit must be for sale, and artwork by the proposing curator cannot account for more than 33% of the exhibited artworks. Exhibitions must be installed in under 4 days and be completed by November 6, 2024. The curator is responsible for creating and printing wall labels, price lists, and other in-gallery materials (Crown will provide a template if needed). Any audio/visual equipment required must be provided by the artists. Metro Art Studios and Crown Gallery are not responsible for shipping or installation costs, though pedestals are available. All artwork is fully insured while in the gallery's possession, and the facility has 24-hour security.

The opening reception on November 9, 2024 coincides with a weekend-long city-wide open studio event that brings approximately 2,000 visitors to Metro Art Studios. Crown Gallery is approximately 1,250 square feet with 11-foot ceilings in a restored mill building. Eligible applicants must be curators working or residing in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, or New Jersey. All visual art mediums will be considered. Special consideration will be given to proposals reflecting a commitment to access, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Submissions are due September 3, 2024, with notification on September 9. A 40% commission will be retained by Metro Art Studios on all sales, with artists paid within 30 days after the exhibition closing date.
