2024-2025 Downtown Liberty Rotating Sculpture Program

Twelve sculptures will be selected and on display from September 2024 through September 2025 in Downtown Liberty, Missouri. Selected artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium for participation. The City of Liberty has the option to purchase at least one piece of art from the displayed works, with a purchase price up to $20,000, which would become part of the City's permanent art collection.

All work must be freestanding and resilient to outdoor elements and temperature variations (regional range 120°F to -30°F). Sculptures must be aesthetically appropriate for public display with priority given to safety (no sharp edges, points, breakable components, climbing hazards, or barbed wire) and durability. The sculpture must be structurally secured to a concrete pad with bolts. Materials may include metal, wood, plastic, stone, ceramic, or other durable materials. Each application should contain images of one piece only, with up to 3 images of the same piece. Artists may submit up to 5 different pieces via separate applications.

Selected artwork must be installed by September 20, 2024, and removed the first week of September 2025. Artists are responsible for transporting, installing, and removing their artwork in accordance with the timeline agreed upon with the City. The $2,000 honorarium helps defray these costs; any expenses exceeding this amount are the artist's responsibility. Artists may sell their work during the exhibition period, but the City of Liberty has first right of refusal. Proof of General Liability Insurance is required if selected and city staff assistance with installation is requested. The program is open to all artists regardless of location who are at least 18 years of age. All entries must be original work of safe design and construction.
