About This Call
The City of Alamosa is accepting entries for the eighth annual Alamosa ARTscape Art on Loan Program, a public art program open to all professional and amateur artists. Artists may submit up to 2 applications, with each application containing 1 artwork (with 2-3 images of that work). Submissions must be more than two feet in height and valued at no more than $20,000.
Judging will take place in March 2024, and 15 pieces will be selected based on originality and suitability for outdoor display. Selected artwork will remain on display for a one-year period. Artists receive a $1,000 honorarium for selected artwork delivered by the due date. Throughout the display period, community members will vote for a "People's Choice Award," with a $1,000 prize awarded to the selected artist.
Artwork must be delivered to the installation site on September 13, 2024. Pedestal-mounted pieces must not exceed 23 inches and require a separate metal base for welding. Ground-mounted pieces must have brackets extending beyond the piece with 1/2-inch pre-cut holes for drilling. The City of Alamosa will handle installation with artist assistance at a location selected by the City. The artwork will be insured against vandalism, theft, and motor vehicle damage during the display period, but the City is not liable for degradation from normal wear and tear or weathering. Installation is part of the Alamosa ARTs Festival on September 13-14, 2024, in downtown Alamosa, featuring an artist reception on Friday evening and events with the Alamosa Farmers' Market on Saturday. Artists receive two nights of lodging in a local hotel on the night prior to installation and the night of installation. Applications are due by March 1, 2024, with selection notification after March 15, 2024.
