About This Call

Since 1998, Weir Farm National Historical Park (Weir Farm NHP) has welcomed more than 250 artists from across the United States and internationally, including artists from Tunisia, Germany, Australia, India, Ireland, South Africa, and The Netherlands. The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program selects visual artists to spend up to one month living and working at the park. Artists work in all media and diverse artistic points of view from traditional to experimental. Housing and studio space are provided, along with a stipend of $100 per week for the duration of the residency. Artists are chosen through an annual competitive jury process.

Applicants must be age 25 or older at the time of application and may be graduate students, emerging artists, or professional artists. Artists must apply as individuals only; couples, collectives, and groups will not be considered. Applicants must be able to speak and read English at a conversational level and be eligible to travel to and within the United States. Weir Farm NHP is not responsible for procuring or sponsoring visas.

During residency, artists are required to attend a Welcome Event at the start, provide one public program (Presentation and Public Open Studio) toward the end of the residency, and participate in Saturday Open Studios where the studio is accessible to the public for 1 hour each Saturday (artist presence is not required). Artists must sign up with the NPS VIP Program as volunteers and track their hours, sign a Volunteer Service Agreement Form, and adhere to all Park Policies. Artists are required to send 3-5 images of their work to WFAA each week for social media sharing, submit digital representation of work completed in residence within 6 months of the residency end date, and participate in a post-residency video interview. A vehicle is recommended due to the location. The entry fee is $35.00, and applicants must submit 5-10 images of their work.
