2023 RFP: National Fitness Campaign

SMALL TOWN * BIG ART is seeking qualified artists or teams of artists to create mural designs for new Fitness Courts in Kahului, Hawaii. These structures will be located at Keōpūolani Regional Park and Kahului Community Center Park. Each rear wall measures 384 inches wide by 85.75 inches high (32 feet by approximately 7 feet) and will serve as a large artistic focal piece at each site.

The final artwork may be either digital art or a high-resolution image of work produced in another 2D media, and must incorporate the color Pantone 2191C. The art will be transferred into a vinyl wrap covering the rear wall of the Fitness Court. For each of the two structures, the selected artist or artists will receive a commission of $5,000 to design the site-specific final artwork. The Fitness Courts are scheduled to be installed in Fall 2023. National Fitness Campaign's graphic design team may repurpose portions of selected designs for four front wall art windows; artists are welcome to include their own designs in these areas but it is not required.

Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ by July 31, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The entry fee is $5.00. Applicants may submit 3-9 work samples and may apply as a single artist or multi-person collaborative group. Required application materials include artist bio, résumé (one to two pages highlighting professional accomplishments and experience in communal or public art with two references), statement of interest, project description, work samples, and a concept design with an image of the proposed art piece. Themes must address the distinct sense of place, history, and/or culture of the site. All artists are welcome to apply.
