About This Call
The 2023 Ninth Annual NorthStar Watermedia National Juried Exhibition will be held at the Phipps Center for the Arts, 109 Locust Street, Hudson, WI 54016. The exhibition runs September 15 to October 29, 2023, with gallery hours Monday-Saturday 9:30am-9:30pm and Sunday 12:00-5:00pm. The Phipps Center overlooks the scenic St. Croix River and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this fall.
The juror is Dan Mackerman, who holds an MFA from the University of Minnesota and is a Walker Art Center alumnus. He works as both a production and fine artist with experience in oil, acrylic, pastel, gouache, casein, and watercolor. His work is held in over 70 public collections. Entry is open to all artists 18 years and older. Artists may submit up to three paintings, but only one will be selected for exhibition. Entry fees are $40 for NorthStar Watermedia Society members and $55 for non-members. The entry deadline is July 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Acceptance notifications will be sent July 12, 2023.
Submissions must be JPEG or JPG files with dimensions of 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side and file size under 5 MB in sRGB color profile. Images should show only the painting without frame or wall, in proper orientation, without digital watermark. Price and title cannot be changed after the entry deadline. Pricing should reflect framing costs, shipping, sales tax, and the 40% sales commission to the Phipps Center if sold. NFS paintings must include an insurance value. A public reception celebrating the Phipps 40th anniversary will be held September 15, 6:30-8:30pm. An NSWS artist reception and award ceremony will be held Sunday, October 29, 2-4:30pm.
