2023 National 2D Competition

Cape Fear Studios announces its 11th National 2D Competition, a juried exhibition open to all artists 18 or older in the United States. The exhibit will be on display June 23–July 25, 2023 at Cape Fear Studios Main Gallery in Fayetteville, NC.

Artists may submit up to two 2-dimensional entries. Works must be completed in the past 2 years, not previously exhibited in Cumberland County, NC, and must be for sale. Accepted media includes all 2-D painting and drawing media, hand-pulled prints, and collage. Photographs, recolored image transfers, and digitally produced images will not be accepted. Works may not exceed 36 x 36 inches including frame and must be properly wired for hanging. Diptychs and triptychs are accepted only when created as a single concept in multiple frames. Entry fee is $35 for the first entry and $15 for the second entry. Submissions require 1-2 digital images.

Awards include Best of Show ($700), First Place ($300), Second Place ($200), and three Honorable Mentions ($50 each). The juror is Russell Jewell Ed.D., AWS, NWS, TWSA, an internationally recognized plein air painter. Artists will be notified of acceptance or decline by May 17, 2023. Accepted works must be delivered June 14-17 or 20. Cape Fear Studios retains a 30% commission on any sales. The artist is responsible for insurance and shipping costs. Payment from sales will be made within 30 days after the exhibit closes. Reception and Awards Ceremony is Friday, June 23 from 6-8 p.m. Hand-delivered works may be picked up July 26-28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
