About This Call
The 2023 MidSummer Art Celebration is a juried exhibition open to all Hawaiʻi-based 2D and 3D artists in all mediums and styles. Sponsored by Hawaiʻi Island Art Alliance (HIAA), this is the 6th annual All Media Juried Exhibit celebrating artists working in their studios and sharing their creations with the community.
Submission deadline is Friday, May 12 at 5:59 PM HST. Artists may submit up to five entries, with a $15 non-refundable entry fee per submission. Work samples may include 1-5 images, up to 5 audio files, and up to 5 video files (videos incur a $3 surcharge). Accepted artists will be notified on Monday, May 15. Drop-off of accepted artwork at Wailoa Center is Saturday, May 27, between 10:00am-1:00pm. For Kona artists, pick-up is available at Donkey Mill on Friday, May 26 at 10:00am. Off-island work must be received by Friday, May 26; artists are responsible for shipping costs and must include a prepaid return label and $10 handling fee. Shipping address: Wailoa Center, 200 Piopio St., Hilo, Hawaii.
The exhibition opens Friday, June 2 with an opening reception Friday, June 3, 5:00-7:00 pm, and closes Wednesday, June 28. Artist pick-up is Thursday, June 29, between 10:00am-2:00pm. Juror Carl F.K. Pao will select works based on visual impact, composition, and lasting appeal. Monetary prizes will be awarded. Works should be for sale; HIAA charges 20% commission on all sales.
