About This Call
The 2023 Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition will be held at Arts Barn and Kentlands Mansion Galleries, 311 and 320 Kent Square Road, Gaithersburg, Maryland, from October 6, 2023 to January 15, 2024. The exhibition is juried by Alexis Lavine, a signature member of nine watercolor societies including The National Watercolor Society and Watercolor USA Honor Society.
Eligibility: All Baltimore Watercolor Society (BWS) Signature and Life members may enter regardless of residence. Other artists must reside in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or West Virginia and be 18 years or older. Art students enrolled in degree or certificate programs (not BWS members) may enter under the student category. Entry fee is $35 for nonmembers, $30 for BWS members, and $20 for eligible art students. An optional $5 donation supports catalog production. Only one entry per artist may be selected for exhibition. Entries must be original watermedia paintings on paper or equivalent, completed within the last five years, and not previously exhibited in prior BWS Mid-Atlantic exhibitions. No side of the painting visible within the mat can be less than 10 inches, and frames must not exceed 48 inches in either dimension. All paintings must be framed in wood or metal with professional presentation standards.
Awards include Gold Medal ($1,500), Silver Medal ($1,200), and Bronze Medal ($1,000), with total awards expected to exceed $15,000 in cash, gift certificates, and merchandise. Selected entries will be notified by September 2, 2023. Hand delivery of accepted work is October 2, 2023 (10 AM-2 PM), or shipping arrangements can be made with a $25 handling fee. A 35% commission (30% gallery, 5% BWS) applies to all sales. Unsold artworks must be picked up January 16, 2024 (10 AM-noon) or shipping arrangements made in advance. An Alexis Lavine workshop will be held October 3-5, 2023 in Columbia, Maryland, with details available on the BWS website. Reception and awards presentation: November 12, 2023, 2 PM-4 PM.
