About This Call

2023 INTERSTATE is a national juried exhibition hosted by the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. The exhibition runs November 2–December 2, 2023. Proceeds from this national exhibition will support student scholarships in the CWU Department of Art + Design.

The exhibition is open to submissions in all media and subject matter; artwork does not need to follow a particular theme. Artists must be over 18 and submit original works where they hold sole copyright. Up to five media files can be submitted (1–5 images, 0–4 audio files, 0–4 video files). The entry fee is $35. Entries must be submitted online by August 31, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification of acceptance will be sent by September 22, 2023, with accepted work due by October 20, 2023.

Juror Stefano Catalani, Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner, Washington, will select all awards: First Place ($700), Second Place ($500), Third Place ($300), and three Sarah Spurgeon Gallery Honorable Mentions. All work must be ready to display with clear installation instructions. Framed 2-dimensional pieces must include supporting wire. The gallery provides pedestals for 3-dimensional work. Large works (over 60 inches in any direction) or heavy works (over 50 lbs.) will be accepted at the gallery's discretion. All shipping costs and insurance are the artist's responsibility. Insurance coverage is provided while works are on the gallery premises. The gallery does not charge commission or process sales. An opening reception and juror's talk will be held November 2, with the juror's talk from 4–5 p.m. and reception from 5–7 p.m. Work will be returned December 3–8.
