2023 Georgia Watercolor Society Member Juried Exhibition

Georgia Watercolor Society is accepting submissions for its 44th Member Juried Exhibition, open to members only. The exhibition will be held in person at Thomasville Center for the Arts in Thomasville, Georgia. The juror is Iain Stewart. There are $3,000 in cash awards.

All work must have been completed after August 2021 and be original from conception to completion. Allowed water media include watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, and egg tempera. Collage is accepted only if all elements were made using water media and created by the artist. Media not allowed include pastels, charcoal, alcohol ink, oil, and water-soluble oil. No preprinted or computer-generated images are allowed. Work previously exhibited in any GWS show is not eligible. Image size displayed within the mat must be no smaller than 80 square inches, with no side smaller than 8 inches. Allowed surfaces include paper, Yupo, canvas, Claybord, rice paper, and Tyvek.

Entry fee is $35.00. Submissions must include 1-3 digital images at 300 DPI, 1800 pixels on the longer side, and file size less than 3.0 Mb. Selected artists will be published July 5. Shipped artwork must arrive August 2-4, with in-person delivery available August 5 from 11 am to 2 pm. The exhibition opens August 16 and closes September 29. An Iain Stewart workshop runs August 16-18, with a demo and award ceremony on August 19 open to the public. In-person pickup of paintings is September 30 from 11 am to 2 pm, with shipped work returning October 2-3.

Frames must be plain and unadorned, not exceeding 3 inches in width, in wood or metal with colors including gold, silver, black, brown, white, or natural wood tones. Mats and liners must be paper with no texture, white or variations of white, with no accent colors. Plexiglass must be used, not glass. Maximum frame size may not exceed 48 inches in either direction. Paintings must be shipped via UPS or FedEx using Airfloat, Masterpack, or comparable foam-lined boxes. A prepaid return shipping label must be enclosed. If not using Airfloat or Masterpack boxes, include a $25.00 check made to GWS.
