2023 Gardens on Spring Creek Temporary Art Installation Project

The City of Fort Collins Art in Public Places Program is seeking submissions from artists and artist teams to develop proposals for a temporary art installation at The Gardens on Spring Creek, the community botanic garden of Fort Collins, Colorado. The selected artist(s) will work with the project team to develop the timeline, final art concept, and collaborate to ensure respect of the natural environment. The artwork will be on display for up to 10 months, installed in May or June 2023.

The project seeks artists who can create exciting exterior artwork that enhances the gardens' natural beauty, promotes environmental stewardship, and inspires visitors. Proposals should consist of 5–9 pieces located at multiple locations within the gardens, with a minimum of 5 of the 9 concrete sculpture pads utilized for art. All media appropriate to the project will be considered. Design must account for the work being situated in a secure public location, subject to the elements and potential vandalism. The total contract amount is approximately $19,000, covering all fees for consulting, design, execution, transportation, site preparation, installation, and deinstallation. There is an opportunity for artworks to be for sale, with The Gardens retaining a commission.

Applicants must submit a 5,000 character letter of intent describing their interest and proposed installation, a current resume (maximum 2 pages), three professional references, and 4–8 digital images of proposed or relevant work completed within the past five years. Eligibility is open to artists and artist teams at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States. Artists can propose existing or new works. A selection committee will review materials and make a final recommendation. Upon selection and final design approval, the artist must complete a contract with the City of Fort Collins.
