About This Call

The City of Auburn is seeking artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional or small three-dimensional media to exhibit their work at City of Auburn gallery spaces during 2023. Artists and/or artist groups of diverse mediums are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to: printmaking, painting, drawing, mixed media, textiles, mosaic, glass, recycled materials, photography, calligraphy, collage, fiber art, ceramics, jewelry, and metal sculptures. There are no location restrictions, but all work must be delivered and picked up in person in Auburn, Washington.

Two gallery spaces are available: Cheryl Sallee Gallery at the Auburn Senior Activity Center (808 Ninth St. SE) features a gallery wall with Arakawa hanging system and professional gallery lighting, with 8-week exhibitions of approximately 5-12 artworks and hours 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, plus various evenings and weekends. The Auburn Community & Event Center (910 Ninth Street SE) offers a spacious hallway gallery approximately 26 linear feet with professional Arakawa hanging system, gallery lighting, pedestals, and vitrines for small 3-D works, accommodating 4-20 artworks total in 8-week exhibitions, with hours 8am-9pm Monday-Friday and 9am-4pm Saturday.

Applications must include up to ten representative images (minimum 3), a resume detailing exhibition history, and an artist statement. All work must be mounted or framed and securely wired (or with D-rings) and ready to hang. Established and emerging artists are eligible. A selection panel including City of Auburn Arts Commissioners, artists, and community representatives will select artists. Exhibitions will be scheduled following artist selection, with the first available exhibition date in January 2023. Artists are required to sign an "Agreement to Exhibit" liability waiver. The exhibition spaces are not secured and there is no insurance for objects submitted. Artists are not allowed to list artworks for sale, though private sales between artist and buyer are permitted with no commission taken by the City.
