About This Call
The Bonnaroo Works Fund in partnership with Arts at the Airport is seeking proposals for 4 temporary public artwork Bonnaroo-themed displays at Nashville International Airport (BNA). The displays will be suspended from the ceiling from June 5, 2023 to April 7, 2024, encompassing 4 skylights located in airport concourses on the secure side of the terminal. Each selected artist will receive a $4,500 honorarium and 2 General Admission Weekend Passes plus 1 Car Camping Pass to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival (June 15-18, 2023).
Artists will create site-specific sculptures or kinetic mobiles for individual skylights. The skylights have glass panels open to exposed sky with no UV protective glass, and artists must select materials that can withstand sunlight, high temperatures, and suspension for up to 11 months. Weight limit is 300 lbs. per sculpture. Projects should be inspired by Bonnaroo principles and may incorporate iconic Bonnaroo festival elements (Arch, Fountain, Fire Tower, infinity symbol), focus on recycling and sustainability, reflect the Bonnaroovian Code (Prepare Thy Self, Play as a Team, Radiate Positivity, Respect The Farm, Don't be that Guy/Gal, Stay True Roo), or emphasize Bonnaroo's resiliency and comeback. Projects may not include elements requiring electricity or maintenance after installation.
Applications must include: résumé (max 2 pages), biography (1-2 paragraphs), 7-10 photo examples of previous work and visual representation of proposed skylight, written site-specific proposal (max 3 pages) with artist statement, dimensions, weight, and detailed written installation plan. All materials must include explanation of UV resistance, heat resistance, and ability to remain suspended for 11 months. Artists are responsible and liable for material integrity. Each artist or organization may submit no more than 2 applications. Applications close February 3, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Selected artists will be notified February 20, 2023. Installation occurs May 22-June 2, 2023.
