2023 Abstract Only! 13th Annual Multimedia National Juried Competition

The 2023 Abstract Only! 13th Annual Multimedia National Juried Competition is open to all US National and Hawaii-based artists. The competition accepts 2D and 3D abstract work in all mediums. Artists may submit a maximum of five entries, with an entry fee of $15 per artwork. Work samples may include 1-5 images, 0-5 audio files, and 0-5 video files, with a minimum of 1 total sample required. For 3D work, submitting an image collage with multiple photos showing different angles is recommended.

The submission deadline is Friday, July 14, 2023 at 5:59 p.m. HST. Artist notification will occur on Monday, July 17. Drop-off of accepted artwork at Wailoa Center is Saturday, July 29, between 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Kona pickup is available at Akamai Arts on Friday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m. Off-island work must be received by Friday, July 28. Artists are financially responsible for shipping costs to and from Wailoa Center; packages must include a prepaid return label and a $10 handling fee per artwork. Checks should be made to the Hawaii Island Art Alliance.

The exhibition opens Friday, August 4 with an opening reception from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and closes Thursday, September 14. Artists must pick up work Friday, September 15 between 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Wailoa Center, with Akamai Arts artwork returning Friday, September 15 at 10:00 a.m. The juror is Ming Li Jiang. Monetary prizes will be awarded. Works are required to be for sale, with the Hawaii Island Art Alliance charging a 20% commission on all sales.
