2023-24 Dexter Art Gardens Temporary Sculpture Display

The Dexter Art Gardens is an annual outdoor artwork exhibition sponsored by the Dexter Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee and the City of Dexter. Five temporary outdoor artworks will be juried and placed on display with the City's permanent collection for one year, from June 2023 to May 2024. Selected pieces will be installed on concrete pads in highly trafficked locations in historic Dexter, Michigan.

The City of Dexter is located seven miles west of Ann Arbor in Southeast Michigan, along the banks of the Huron River and Mill Creek. The area offers river activities, nature trails, biking on the Washtenaw County Border-to-Border Trail, a historic downtown, cultural attractions, local theater, a historical museum, summer concerts, ice skating, community festivals, and several City parks.

Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years of age and older who are capable of installing art on-site. Artists may submit up to three original three-dimensional artworks suitable in scale and materials for public outdoor display. Submit 1-10 images of work samples. Each selected artist will receive a $900 stipend paid after successful installation. Benefits include exhibition at high visibility sites, a plaque with the artist's name, artwork title and price, a year-long promotional campaign, publication in print and online brochures distributed throughout the year and at the Dexter Daze Festival and Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival, and promotion on the City's website and Facebook page. Applications open January 14, 2023, with a deadline of February 23, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artist notification of selection will occur the week of March 27, 2023. Installation is scheduled for June 1-15, 2023, with artwork removal appointments available May 15-31, 2024.
