About This Call
Twelve sculptures will be selected for display from September 2023 through September 2024 in Downtown Liberty, MO. Selected artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium for participation. The City of Liberty has the option to purchase at least one piece from the displayed works for up to $20,000, which would become part of the City's permanent art collection.
All work must be freestanding and resilient to outdoor elements and temperature variations (ranging from 120°F to -30°F). Sculptures must be aesthetically appropriate for public display with priority given to safety (no sharp edges, points, breakable components, climbing hazards, or barbed wire) and durability. Pieces must be structurally secured to a concrete pad with bolts. Materials may include metal, wood, plastic, stone, ceramic, or other durable materials. Artists are responsible for insurance, transportation, installation, and removal of their work. Selected artwork must be installed by September 19, 2023, and removed the first week of September 2024. Artists may sell their work during the exhibition period, but pieces cannot be removed until the exhibition concludes in September 2024. The City of Liberty has first right of refusal on any sales.
Applications must include up to five images of a single piece (or submit separate applications for multiple pieces, up to five total). Each entry should list artist name, entry title, materials, dimensions, anchoring method, completion date, a one-paragraph description, artist statement, brief biography, current professional resume, and asking price. Proof of General Liability Insurance is required if selected. The program is open to all artists 18 years or older regardless of location. All entries must be original work of safe design and construction. Jury selection will be conducted by a panel including business and education professionals from the Liberty area. Selected artists may be interviewed by phone and must enter into a contractual agreement with the City of Liberty.
