About This Call
The Transparent Watercolor Society of America invites entries for its 46th Annual Juried Exhibition. This national exhibition is open to residents of North America 18 years of age or older. Entrants must be TWSA members in good standing with paid 2021 dues. All work must be original transparent watercolor created after January 1, 2019, with no supervised instruction, and may not have been previously exhibited in a TWSA exhibit.
Paintings must be transparent watercolor applied on a single piece of rag or wood pulp paper free of pigment and embedded materials. Opaque white paint, gesso, gouache, acrylics, water-soluble oils, inks, metallic or iridescent paints, watercolor crayons, colored pencils, charcoal, pastels, varnish, wax, collage, impasto, embossing, watercolor resist (frisket), Yupo paper, canvas, and digital images are not eligible. Graphite pencil may be used only for planning marks. Maximum frame size cannot exceed 50" on any side; simple, non-decorative frames are preferred. Mats must be white or off-white with up to 1/4" colored liner acceptable. Minimum image size (mat opening) is 80 square inches.
Entry fee is $50 for one image or $55 for two images (includes $40 annual membership fee for unpaid members). Prepaid members pay $10 for one image or $15 for two images, with a $5 media fee for the second image. Life members enter free using code TWSA4Life. The Transparent Watercolor Society of America anticipates cash awards totaling $25,000. A full-color catalog of all paintings in the exhibition will be produced and provided to all members. Jurors are Mark Mehaffey and Brenda Swenson. Images of exhibited artwork may be used without charge for advertising and promotion. Paintings not adhering to requirements will not be exhibited and will be returned at the artist's expense. Entry fees are not refundable.
