About This Call
Shenandoah National Park's Artist-in-Residence program offers professional artists an opportunity to live and work in this exceptional environment for three weeks. The works completed during the program will serve to deepen the understanding and appreciation of Shenandoah National Park. The program is supported by a generous donation from the Shenandoah National Park Trust.
This program provides uninterrupted time to pursue artistic work and the opportunity to engage and inspire the public through outreach. Artists have the opportunity to create works that promote an understanding of the need to preserve national parks. A small stipend for travel, subsistence, and support for material for public programs may be provided. The artist will be housed in a furnished room at the Skyland Lodge in Shenandoah National Park; housing is for the artist only.
Eligible applicants include professional artists such as writers, composers, craftsmen, painters, photographers, sculptors, storytellers, musicians, videographers, poets, and visual artists. The artist-in-residence must present at least two public programs during their residency and donate an original piece of art representative of their style and reflecting their residency within six months of their stay. Artists must provide their own personal art supplies and a vehicle is required for the residency. Application materials include responses to several questions, a resume, several images of work, and an optional letter of reference. Entry fee is $10.00. Available residency dates: May 9-30, July 15-August 5, August 15-September 6, September 12-October 3, and October 17-November 7, 2022.
