About This Call
The New Mexico Arts Commission and the New Mexico Arts Division announce a call for nominations for the 2022 Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts. Each year, New Mexico's Governor recognizes the extraordinary contributions that individuals and organizations make to the arts in New Mexico. The Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts were established in 1974 by then Governor Bruce King and First Lady Alice King to celebrate the particular significance of the arts to the State of New Mexico. For more than three decades a prominent and diverse group of painters, weavers, sculptors, dancers, musicians, storytellers, poets, actors, playwrights, potters, and supporters of the arts have been honored. This year's awardees will be honored at a ceremony in October 2022.
Nominations are invited from interested New Mexicans and arts groups statewide and are reviewed by the New Mexico Arts Commission and the Governor. Living artists currently residing in New Mexico from any discipline who have made significant and outstanding achievements in the arts will be considered. Individuals who are non-artists but have made significant or distinguished contributions to the arts in New Mexico may also be nominated, including arts patrons, arts advocates, and arts educators. Organizations or individuals in New Mexico who have made significant contributions or provided outstanding support (financial or otherwise) to the arts are also eligible. Self-nominations are not permitted.
Nominations must include a letter of nomination and one to five internet links with relevant artistic samples or examples of contributions. Up to three additional internet links with supporting documentation such as biography, resume/CV, or articles about the nominee may be included. Applicants may submit up to five applications. The deadline for receipt of nominations is Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. For accessibility accommodations or alternate formats, contact New Mexico Arts Accessibility Coordinator Lilli Tichinin at [email protected]; phone: 505-476-0518 (voice); Instate: 1-800-879-4278 (voice); TTY Relay: 1-800-659-8331; Fax: 505-827-6043.
