About This Call

The Mary Olson Farm Artist in Residence program offers an annual opportunity for an artist to pursue their work in the unique setting of the Mary Olson Farm in Auburn, Washington. The residency lasts approximately two months during June and July 2022.

The residency provides a $3,500 stipend (funds can be used towards art supplies, transportation, meals, etc.), a large historic barn studio space of approximately 450 sq. ft. on a 67-acre property, opportunities to tour the property and learn about its history through the White River Valley Museum, and an exhibition opportunity with reception and artist talk in Auburn. Selected artists must commit to a minimum of ten hours per week for eight weeks creating work on-site, two open-studio weekend afternoons for public viewing, one free artist-led workshop, and participation in a final artist talk, reception, and exhibition. Artists provide their own supplies and transportation.

Eligibility is open to individual artists or artist teams currently residing in the Pacific Northwest working in two and three-dimensional media including drawing, painting, photography, textiles, sculpture, installation, woodworking, and printmaking. Selection is based on artistic excellence, strength and creativity of the residency proposal, and feasibility of creating innovative work during the residency. The application deadline is October 28, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Finalists will be notified by November 5, 2021 and invited to interview on November 10, 2021. Submit 5-15 digital images and optional videos demonstrating past work. Contact Allison Hyde, City of Auburn Arts Coordinator, at [email protected] or 253.804.5043.
