About This Call

2022 INTERSTATE is a national juried exhibition hosted by the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. The exhibition is open to submissions in all media and subject matter; artwork does not need to follow a particular theme. The subtitle, "where I-90 meets I-82," locates the exhibition in Ellensburg and suggests the flow and exchange of artwork across geographic distances and boundaries. Proceeds from this biennial exhibition support student scholarships in the CWU Department of Art + Design. Exhibition dates are March 31–April 23, 2022.

The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery, founded in 1969, is dedicated to contemporary art exhibits and related outreach programs that enhance, engage, and challenge viewers' knowledge and understanding of art. The gallery presents artists and viewers with opportunities to explore culturally diverse ideas in an academic environment. The juror is Faith Brower, Haub Curator of Western American Art at Tacoma Art Museum.

Eligibility: Open to artists over 18 working in all 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and video formats. Only original works where the artist is the sole copyright holder will be accepted. Entry fee is $35 for up to three submissions. A maximum of five images can be submitted, or a combination of images and video/audio files for a maximum of five total media. A brief artist bio is required. Entries must be submitted by January 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time. Results will be sent by email on or before February 18, 2022. All shipped work must arrive by March 11, 2022. Works cannot exceed 4 feet in any direction or weigh more than 70 pounds. Awards: First Place $700, Second Place $500, Third Place $300, and three Sarah Spurgeon Gallery Honorable Mentions. Shipping costs and insurance are the responsibility of the artist.
