About This Call

The 2022 Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival offers two participation options for artists.

Juried Artists (entry fee $50, or $40 with early bird discount) compete for prizes by submitting an artist biography and three digital images of original en plein air artwork created within the past two years. Up to 50 artists will be selected by jury. Selected artists receive a welcome bag, map of painting sites, participation in the Workshop with Andrew Lattimore, entry into the Quick Draw Competition, entry to the Juror of Awards Demonstration, and the opportunity to submit up to four paintings for display. Two paintings will be featured in the gallery exhibit and awards competition; additional paintings will be for sale online only. Award categories include First Place ($1,000), Second Place ($750), Third Place ($500), Best Audubon Site Painting, Best Bashakill Painting, Best Goshen Painting, Best Nocturne, and Artists' Choice. Artists who won awards in 2021 are automatically guaranteed a spot upon application.

The Painter's Pass (entry fee $35, or $30 with early bird discount) is for artists who do not wish to enter the juried competition. Painter's Pass artists receive the same welcome bag, map, workshop participation, Quick Draw entry, and Juror of Awards Demonstration, plus display of one painting in the online shop. These artists are not eligible for main gallery exhibit prizes but may win Quick Draw awards.

All paintings must be created en plein air during the event, with a maximum canvas or paper size of 18"x24". Artwork must be framed with wire on the back (no gallery wrapped canvases), and only artwork bearing an official stamp will be permitted in exhibitions and sales. The festival takes place October 10-15, 2022, with events including a Quick Draw Competition, workshop with instructor Andrew Lattimore, optional group paint-outs, and an exhibit opening and reception. Notification of selected juried artists will be emailed by August 14, with invited artists required to accept by August 31. Applications must be submitted by July 28, 2022 through CallForEntry.org.
