2022 Hawaii Nei Art Exhibition

The 2022 Hawaii Nei Art Exhibition invites residents of the Island of Hawai'i to submit original artwork featuring native species found on Hawai'i Island. The submission deadline is Friday, October 14 at 5:59 PM (HST). Entry fee is $15 per submission, with a maximum of five entries per artist. Artists may submit 1-5 work samples in any combination of images, audio, or video.

All works must be original (no prints or giclèe), created within the last two years, and not previously exhibited. The main subject must be a native species naturally occurring on Hawai'i Island—either endemic (found only in Hawaiʻi) or indigenous (native to Hawaiʻi and elsewhere). Artwork featuring non-native species, Polynesian introductions, or species endemic exclusively to other Hawaiian islands will not be accepted. Artwork made from endangered native species will not be accepted. Artists are encouraged to consider sustainable gathering practices and to request permission from landowners when using native species as materials.

Artist notification occurs by October 17. The exhibition opens November 4 and closes December 15. All selected adult entries must be for sale with a minimum price of $20; youth entries are not required to be for sale. If artwork sells, 60% goes to the artist and 40% to the Hawai'i Island Art Alliance and Three Mountain Alliance Foundation. Monetary prizes are awarded for 1st Place, 2nd Place, and Jurors' Choice.
