About This Call
The City of Auburn is seeking artists and/or artist groups working in two-dimensional or small three-dimensional media to exhibit their work at three City of Auburn gallery spaces during 2022. Galleries are located within City operated buildings: City Hall (25 W Main), Auburn Senior Center/Cheryl Sallee Gallery (808 Ninth St. SE), and Community & Event Center (910 Ninth Street SE). Artists working in diverse mediums are encouraged to apply, including printmaking, painting, drawing, mixed media, textiles, mosaic, glass, recycled materials, photography, calligraphy, collage, fiber art, ceramics, jewelry, and metal sculptures. There are no location restrictions, but all work must be delivered and picked up in person in Auburn, Washington.
Each gallery space features professional Arakawa hanging systems and gallery lighting. City Hall Gallery accommodates approximately 6-20 artworks (hours: 8am-5pm Monday-Friday). Cheryl Sallee Gallery accommodates approximately 5-12 artworks (hours: 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, plus various evenings and weekends). Community & Event Center is approximately 26 linear feet and accommodates approximately 4-20 artworks (hours: 8am-9pm Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm Saturday). All exhibitions are 8 weeks long. Pedestals and vitrines are available for small 3-D works. Installation dates will be assigned by City of Auburn staff, typically during the work week, with the first available exhibition date in January 2022.
Applications must include up to ten representative images (minimum 3, preferably work completed in the last two years), a resume detailing exhibition history, and an artist statement. All work must be mounted or framed and securely wired and ready to hang. Artists may indicate preferred exhibition months and gallery location. A selection panel including City of Auburn Arts Commissioners, artists, and community representatives will select artists for all three gallery spaces. Artists are required to sign an "Agreement to Exhibit" liability waiver. The exhibition spaces are not secured and there is no insurance for objects submitted. Artists are not allowed to list artworks for sale, though private sales between artist and buyer are permitted with no commission to the City. Exhibitions are publicized through city press releases, social media, email, and the City website.
