About This Call

Form, Not Function: Quilt Art at the Carnegie is an annual juried exhibition of contemporary quilt art held at the Carnegie Center for Art & History in New Albany, Indiana. The exhibition is open to artists age 18 or older living in the United States. All works must be quilted (two or more distinct layers held together with stitches). The layers may include fiber and textile materials, but other techniques and mediums are acceptable as long as the work is quilted as defined. Works must be original and completed since January 1, 2019, with no minimum or maximum size restrictions. Collaborative works made by multiple artists are eligible.

The 2022 exhibition will be on view May 19 – July 16, 2022, with an opening reception on May 19, 2022. Accepted artists will be eligible for cash awards, including a $1,000 Best of Show award. The exhibition is juried by a rotating panel of fiber artists and experts who consider originality, design, technique, and craftsmanship. Entry fee is $35.00 for up to three works (represented by up to 6 images). Artists must submit digital images (one full view and one detail view per work), a completed application, artist statement, and biography (each 3,000 characters maximum) online by March 19, 2022 at 11:59:59 PM Mountain Time Zone. Artists will be notified of acceptance on April 5, 2022.

Accepted works should arrive at the Carnegie Center between April 18-30, 2022. The Carnegie Center will insure all works from arrival until departure. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and must include a pre-paid return-shipping label. Works will be available for pickup on July 18, 2022 and shipped on or about July 18-23, 2022. All work must be received ready for hanging, including the hanging rod. The Carnegie Center retains a 40% commission on any work sold during the exhibition or through mediation by Carnegie Center staff or volunteers. For questions, contact Laura Wilkins at 812-944-7336 or [email protected].
