About This Call

The Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale is a nationally-recognized contemporary Western art exhibition at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. Curated by Rose Fredrick, the exhibit features up to 75 fine artists selected for the quality of their body of work. The show is interested in fine art in any media (2-D or 3-D) that reflects the West as it is today or investigates a contemporary idea or depiction of the West. The exhibit is known for contemporary viewpoints and media. New artists (10-20) are selected every year.

Submissions must include a minimum of 5 and maximum of 15 images of original paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs, or other fine art. Jewelry, furniture, saddles, pottery, and crafts are not accepted. No offset prints or giclee reproductions will be accepted, but fine art photography printed digitally on archival paper is considered. Each submission must include titles, prices, medium, and sizes for all artwork, plus an artist statement. Work should be current (created in the last year or so) and not previously shown in a retail setting or offered for sale in a gallery in Colorado (exceptions apply for sculpture). The application fee is $40.00.

Accepted artists will exhibit up to six works total: three main works and three small works (roughly 144 square inches or smaller for 2-D and 12 x 12 x 12 inches for 3-D). Small works are designated for a silent auction during opening events. All artwork must be available for purchase throughout the exhibition with no pre-sales allowed. Artists set sale prices at their retail price and receive a 70% commission (or 60% for Club Artists). Silent auction bids above the start price benefit the National Western Scholarship Trust. Artists are responsible for shipping artwork to and from the show; insurance is provided while artwork is on site. The exhibition runs January 3-23, 2022, with events including a Young Collectors event in December 2021, private curator tours, a VIP preview on January 3, and an opening Red Carpet Gala on January 4. The gallery is open to the public January 8-23 during the National Western Stock Show. Notification of acceptance will be sent by May 15, 2021.
