About This Call
The Bonnaroo Works Fund in partnership with Arts at the Airport seeks proposals for 4 temporary public artwork Bonnaroo-themed displays at Nashville International Airport (BNA). The displays will be suspended from the ceiling June 6, 2022 through April 9, 2023 in 4 skylights located in airport concourses on the secure side of the terminal (1 on Concourse B and 3 on Concourse C). Each selected artist will receive a $4,500 honorarium and 2 General Admission Weekend Passes plus 1 Car Camping Pass to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
Proposals should be site-specific sculptures or kinetic mobiles inspired by Bonnaroo principles and incorporating elements such as iconic Bonnaroo festival imagery (Arch, Fountain, Fire Tower, fan atmosphere, infinity symbol), focus on recycling and sustainability, the Bonnaroovian Code (Prepare Thy Self, Play as a Team, Radiate Positivity, Respect The Farm, Don't be that Guy/Gal, Stay True Roo), and themes of resilience and positivity. The full Bonnaroo brand logo may not be included. Each sculpture must not exceed 300 lbs and must be constructed from materials that can withstand UV exposure, high temperatures, and suspension for up to 11 months. The skylights have glass panels open to exposed sky with no UV protective glass installed.
Applications must include: résumé (maximum 2 pages), artist or organization biography (1-2 paragraphs), 7-10 images of previous work and 0-2 videos, 7-10 images showing the proposed exhibit design (photos, CAD drawings, etc.), and a written site-specific proposal (maximum 3 pages) with artist statement, dimensions, weight, and detailed written installation plan. The installation plan must verify material composition, UV and temperature resistance, points of support, and include documentation of the sculpture suspended at the artist's studio for two weeks prior to installation. Applications must be submitted electronically via callforentry.org by February 4, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Each artist or organization may submit no more than 2 applications. Selected artists will be notified February 21, 2022, with installation scheduled May 23-June 3, 2022.
