About This Call
The mission of Art in the Heart of Farmington, NM is to promote sculpture as a public art form that enhances Downtown Farmington and promotes artists from the four states of New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Utah. Up to 10 sculptures will be chosen by a juror to be displayed for up to one year and made available for sale.
Selected artists will receive a minimum of $500 honorarium and travel expenses based on distance traveled. Artists will also receive lodging for two nights on May 19 & 20 and are invited to attend an artist's reception at the Navajo Museum of Arts & Culture in Farmington, New Mexico.
Artwork Selection Criteria: Quality—artistic excellence and original creation by the artist; Timelessness—relevance to the community in future years with enduring artistic quality; Permanence—structural and surface soundness, resistant to theft, vandalism, and weathering with minimal maintenance requirements; Compatibility—works should be compatible in style, scale, material, form and content with the Farmington Downtown area and have broad appeal to the general public; Public Safety—works shall not create inordinate safety or liability problems.
Eligibility: Artists from New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona are eligible. Each application requires a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 images and may include an optional video of the same piece. An artist's statement, resume or CV, and detailed sculpture information (title, materials, dimensions, weight, installation requirements, and selling price) must be included. Each artist may submit up to 3 applications with an entry fee of $25 per application. Jury dates: 2/1/23 - 2/28/23.
