2022 Art for the View - An Exhibition Celebrating Artists with Physical Disabilities

Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital invites artists with physical, cognitive, hearing, and visual disabilities to submit work for the 2022 Art for the View exhibition. For over 90 years, Sunnyview has been leading the field in physical disability rehabilitation services in New York. The Viewpoint Gallery collects artwork created exclusively by artists with disabilities, with the goal of inspiring patients and visitors to reach beyond limitations and explore their own abilities and creativity.

The exhibit will be featured first at a ticketed Art for the View event in November 2022, then displayed throughout November at Sunnyview Hospital in Schenectady, NY. The Sunnyview exhibit is free and open to the public. All artwork on display is for sale. Artists earn 75% of sales, with payments made by check in U.S. dollars after the close of the exhibition. Distinguished members of the Capital Region arts community will award prizes ranging from $300 to $50 for Best in Show, 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place.

Eligibility: Open to artists with physical, cognitive, visual, and hearing disabilities. Only work executed after the onset of disability or injury is eligible. Works must have been completed within the last seven years. All works must be for sale; reproduction prints will not be accepted. Up to five pieces may be submitted. Eligible sizes: frame size height maximum 36"; sculpture weight maximum 25 lbs. All works must be framed, wired, and ready to hang. Plexiglas must be used for two-dimensional work; glass can only be used when framing pastel. Each submission must include title, year completed, medium, dimensions, one to two images per piece, artist biography, and artist statement. Application deadline: August 19, 2022. Accepted and non-accepted artists will be notified by September 30, 2022. Artists are responsible for shipping artwork to and from the exhibition insured in new, sturdy, reusable cartons or crates, and for return shipping costs.
