About This Call
The 2nd Annual Statewide Juried Photography Exhibit provides a venue for Hawaii photographers and their work. The exhibit is open to any photographic style, process, and media including traditional, digital, hybrid, cyanotypes, chemigrams, photograms, and experimental processes. Subject matter can include abstract, journalistic, documentary, fashion, social, sports, Hawaiian Islands landscape, flora or fauna, or images relating to traditional or modern Hawaiian culture. Work should originate in Hawaii. No nudity, violence, controversial political or religious statements are allowed.
Eligibility: Must be a full-time resident of Hawaii. If you do not reside full-time in Hawaii but are a legal resident, proof of a current, valid Hawaii driver's license is required. Hawaii residence will be verified prior to sending to jurors. No refund will be given if you submit and are then found to not be a full-time resident of Hawaii.
Submission Requirements: Submit 1-5 images digitally through the CAFE Portal. Files should be labeled as Lastname_Firstname_Title_ImageNumber with a maximum file size of 5 MB in Adobe RGB (1998) or sRGB color space. Do not submit watermarked images. Entry fee is $15 per submission (maximum five entries per artist). Submission deadline: Monday, June 20 at 5:59 PM HST. Artist notification: June 22. Drop off accepted artwork at Wailoa Center: Sunday, July 3, between 10:00am-12:00pm. Kona pick-up at Akamai Arts: Thursday, June 30 at 10:00am. Off-island work must be received by Friday, July 1st. Artists are financially responsible for shipping; packages must include a prepaid return label and $10 handling fee.
The exhibition opens Friday, July 8 with an open house from 1:00pm-6:00pm and closes Thursday, July 28. Artists must pick up work Friday, July 29 between 10:00am-2:00pm. Juror: Bob Douglas. Monetary prizes will be awarded with First Place, Second Place, and Honorable Mention winners in each category. Cash prizes awarded for First Place winners; prizes for other winning levels to be notified later. Works must be for sale; HIAA will charge 20% commission on all sales.
