About This Call
Nine sculptures will be selected for display from September 2022 through September 2023 in Downtown Liberty, MO. Selected artists will receive a $2,000 honorarium, public recognition, and an opportunity for sales. The City of Liberty has the option to purchase at least one piece from the displayed artworks, with a purchase price up to $10,000, which would become part of the City's permanent art collection.
All work must be freestanding and resilient to outdoor elements and variant temperatures (regional range 120°F to -30°F). Sculptures must be aesthetically appropriate for public display with priority given to safety (no sharp edges, points, breakable components, climbing hazards, or barbed wire) and durability. Pieces must be structurally secured to a concrete pad with bolts. Materials may include metal, wood, plastic, stone, ceramic, or other durable materials. Artists are responsible for insurance, transportation, installation, and removal of artwork. Selected artwork must be installed by September 20, 2022, and removed the first week of September 2023. Artists may sell exhibiting artwork during the display period, but pieces cannot be removed until the exhibition concludes in September 2023. The City of Liberty has first right of refusal.
Artists may submit up to five works for consideration. Each submission must include a completed application, up to five digital images (labeled with image number, artist name, and entry title), artist name, entry title, materials used, photos with dimensions (height x width x depth), anchoring method, completion date, description (one paragraph limit), artist statement, brief biography, professional resume, asking price, and proof of general liability insurance if selected. The program is open to all artists regardless of location who are at least 18 years of age. All entries must be original work of safe design and construction. Submissions are juried by a panel including business and education professionals from the Liberty area. Selected artists may be interviewed by phone and must enter into a contractual agreement with the City of Liberty. Notification of jury results will be provided on or before May 16, 2022.
