About This Call
Troy Main Street invites sculptors to submit proposals for the 2021 Sculptures on the Square event, scheduled to be exhibited June 18 - October 4, 2021. The event will display approximately 20 sculptures on the sidewalks of downtown Troy, Ohio. This is Troy's 10th Sculptures on the Square biennial event, which regularly attracts thousands of visitors and engages the community with the arts.
The generalized theme for 2021 is "Taking Flight," inspired by Troy's aviation history, including the WACO Aircraft Company and WACO Air Museum. Sculptors are welcome to freely interpret the theme, though proposals do not have to meet it. The Selection Committee seeks sculptures not larger than 5 feet wide x 5 feet deep x 8 feet tall. Sculptures must be family and community-friendly in design, nature, and content. Selected artists receive a $1,500 USD stipend covering location costs, shipping, insurance, and attendance at the Opening Gala if desired.
Submissions must include artist information, resume or CV showing a history of public art projects (or exhibited artwork for first-time public art proposals), a creation and installation schedule, and either photographs of existing artwork or detailed conceptual drawings for new work. Entries will be judged on adherence to community- and family-friendly content, appropriate size, and inclusion of adequate budget, schedule, and installation details meeting city requirements. This project is open to resident American and legal resident artists and artist teams residing and working in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Apply via callforentry.org.
