About This Call
The Stuart Artist-in-Residence program at South Dakota State University's School of Design invites visual artists working in any discipline, including interdisciplinary approaches, to apply for a 4-week residency from September 7 to October 1, 2021. The program is open to international artists. Selected artists will receive a $2,500 honorarium and $200 materials stipend.
During the residency, the artist will have 24/7 access to the Ritz Gallery, a 1,200 sq. ft. lockable studio space located on campus within an academic environment. A furnished and equipped apartment within walking distance from the studio will be provided. Artists are expected to maintain a full-time working schedule with an open-door policy, share the development of their project with students, faculty, and the regional arts community during open studio hours and public events, and give a public lecture on their artwork. The residency will culminate with an open studio event and/or exhibition in the Ritz Gallery. Use of university equipment and space within teaching studios is limited; applicants should list specific studio furniture and basic equipment needs in their project intent statement. The artist is responsible for transportation, shipping, materials, supplies, meals, and personal expenses.
Applications must include a residency project intent statement (one page limit), resume (not exceeding three pages), three professional references, and 10 images of completed artwork and/or images relevant to the project intent statement. For audio and/or video, provide web-link information within the resume. The application deadline is April 11, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The entry fee is $18.00.
