The 2021 Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival offers two participation options for artists.
Juried Artists ($45 entry fee): Selected through jury review, juried artists receive a welcome bag, map of painting sites, participation in the Quick Draw Workshop with Shawn Dell Joyce, entry into the Quick Draw Competition with eligibility for prizes, and entry to the Juror of Awards Demonstration. Artists may submit up to two paintings for display at Wallkill River School Gallery (eligible for awards) and up to four paintings total for online sale. Award categories include First Place ($1,000), Second Place ($750), Third Place ($500), Best Audubon Site Painting, Best BashaKill Painting, Best Goshen Painting, Best Nocturne, and Artists' Choice. Up to 50 artists will be invited to participate. Notification of selected artists will be emailed by August 15. Artists who won awards in 2020 are automatically guaranteed a spot upon application.
The Painter's Pass ($30 entry fee): For artists not competing for prizes, this option includes a welcome bag with map, Quick Draw Workshop participation, Quick Draw Competition entry with prize eligibility, and display of one painting in the online shop. Painter's Pass artists are not eligible for main gallery exhibit awards.
All paintings must be created "en plein air" during the event, with maximum canvas or paper size of 18"x24". All artwork must be framed with wire on back (no gallery wrapped canvases) and bear an official stamp certifying creation during the event. All submitted artwork must be available for sale. The Quick Draw Workshop occurs October 11, 9am-12pm. The Quick Draw Competition is October 15, 8:30am-12pm. Artwork drop-off is October 15, 1-4:30pm at Wallkill River School.
