About This Call
Form, Not Function is an annual juried exhibition of contemporary quilt art held at the Carnegie Center for Art & History in New Albany, Indiana. The exhibition runs from May 14 – July 10, 2021, with an opening reception on May 14, 2021.
All works must be quilted (two or more distinct layers held together with stitches). Layers may include fiber and textile materials, but other techniques and mediums are acceptable as long as the work is quilted. Works must be original and completed since January 1, 2018, ready to hang on the wall with hanging rod included. There is no minimum or maximum size. Three-dimensional works, including those mounted on stretchers, are eligible if ready to exhibit on the floor, on a pedestal, or with hardware for wall display. The exhibition is open to artists age 18 or older living in the United States. Collaborative works made by multiple artists are eligible.
Entry fee is $35.00 for up to three works (represented by up to 6 images). Submit two digital images per work: one full view showing all edges and one detail view showing stitching and details. Images must be of the actual completed artwork with black, white, gray, or earth tone backgrounds and no text. Include title, media, dimensions, and price with each image. Also submit a completed application, artist statement, and biography (each 3,000 characters maximum). Entry deadline is March 20, 2021 at 11:59:59 PM Mountain Time Zone. Artists will be notified of acceptance on April 6, 2021. The exhibition is juried by a rotating panel of fiber artists and experts who consider originality, design, technique, and craftsmanship. No more than one work by an artist will be selected. Accepted works should arrive at the Carnegie Center from April 19 – May 1, 2021. Works will be available for pickup on July 19, 2021 and shipped on or about July 19 - 24, 2021. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and must enclose a pre-paid return-shipping label. The Carnegie Center will insure all works from arrival until departure. Artists are encouraged to offer works for sale; the Carnegie Center retains a 40% commission on any work sold during the exhibition or resulting from Carnegie Center mediation.
