2021 Boulder Open Studios Membership & Studio Tour

This call for entry is for both the Open Studios Artist Membership (July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2022) and the Open Studios Tour (October 2-3, 9-10, 16-17). All applications are reviewed and scored by a panel of jurors who will determine the list of artists invited to become Members. Up to 140 artists with the highest scores will receive invitations to participate in the Open Studios Tour in October 2021. Accepting the Tour invitation is not mandatory; artists may take advantage of the Membership program without participating in the Tour.

A $37 non-refundable application fee is required with the online application. The application deadline is July 9, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists will be notified of acceptance for Membership on or before July 15, 2021. If accepted for Membership, a Membership agreement and $85 participation fee ($75 for returning Members from the 2020-2021 Membership year) must be submitted by July 30, 2021. Fees are non-refundable. The membership year runs July 15, 2021 - July 30, 2022.

Membership benefits include an Artist Page in the online catalog, a piece of art in the October Members' Exhibit at Boulder Junction, optional Virtual Video Tour placement, opportunity to sell art through Open Studios' online shops and galleries, sales and marketing training, first-in-line opportunities for POP! Galleries and corporate art programs, listing in the Art Class Search, paid teaching residencies ($35/hour) in Boulder County public schools, paid outreach residencies ($35/hour) in underserved neighborhoods, $10 discount on Boulder Plein Air Festival registrations, ongoing social media and marketing campaigns, and $10 discount on 2022-2023 membership fees.

Tour artists must participate at least one full weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) and may participate any two or all three weekends. A Preview Exhibit will be held at the Museum of Boulder, opening September 24, 2021 with an opening reception from 6-8:30 p.m. Tour artists must participate at a location within the Open Studios map; artists whose studios are outside the map may establish a temporary location with Open Studios' assistance. Tour artists are required to provide an educational component about their art-making process. The 2021 Tour participation fee is $175 in addition to the Membership fee, totaling $260 ($250 for returning 2020-2021 Members). Artists are required to contribute 10% of gross art sales resulting from the Tour to Open Studios by the end of the calendar year. Tour artists must deliver art to the Museum of Boulder September 20-21, 2021, and pick up art after October 17, 2021. Open Studios is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to advance and enrich visual art and promote the role of artists in the Boulder Community. Both Membership and Tour participation are open to all artists who produce art in studios in Boulder County.
