About This Call
The 2021 Art-on-Loan Program, administered by the South Suburban Public Art Committee (SSPAC), is accepting proposals to promote and highlight local and Colorado artists and their work. The program is a year-long outdoor exhibit designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, and enhance the visitor experience around the Goodson Recreation Center (Centennial) and The Hudson Gardens & Events Center (Littleton).
SSPAC seeks applications for up to three sculptures to be placed outdoors at Goodson Recreation Center and up to two at The Hudson Gardens & Event Center. At Goodson, sculptures will be displayed on three existing concrete pads (36" diameter, approximately 18" height) located near the main entrance, with embedded steel plates (24" x 24" x 1/2") for welding. Sculptures must fit on the provided pads and cannot exceed 4,000 pounds. At Hudson Gardens, two outdoor display pedestals will be constructed with no size restriction, but overall weight cannot exceed 4,000 pounds. Proposed sculptures must be appropriate for outdoor public display, of high artistic quality, original works, durable, non-breakable, relatively maintenance-free, and meet standards for public safety and structural integrity. Sculptures will be loaned for a one-year exhibition period and must be available for sale.
Eligibility is open to all artists residing in Colorado with appropriate background, experience, and reputation. Each application represents one artwork and should include three different images of the same work. Artists may submit up to three different pieces, one per application. A $500 Exhibitor's Honorarium is provided to each selected artist after artwork installation in June 2021. The artist is responsible for transporting artwork to and from the venue, providing an appropriate pedestal if required, making necessary modifications for mounting, and insuring their own work. SSPRD will assist with offloading, provide equipment and an operator for welding, and assist with de-installation. If artwork is sold, the artist must pay a 20% commission to SSPRD. Exhibition locations: Goodson Recreation Center, 6315 South University Blvd., Centennial, CO 80121; The Hudson Gardens and Event Center, 6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, CO 80120. Submission deadline: Monday, March 8, 2021. Art installation: Early June 2021. Art de-installation: June 2022.
