About This Call
The City of Alamosa is accepting entries for the fifth annual Alamosa ARTscape Art on Loan Program, a public art program open to all professional and amateur artists. Artists may submit up to three works. Submissions must be more than two feet in height and valued at no more than $25,000. Judging will take place in March 2021, and 15 pieces will be selected based on originality and suitability for outdoor display. Applications are due by March 6, 2021, with selection notifications after April 5, 2021.
Selected artwork will be displayed throughout downtown Alamosa for a one-year period. The City of Alamosa will be responsible for installation at a location selected by the City, with the artist's assistance. Artwork must be secured and tamper-proof on a steel plate welded to a 24" round pedestal, unless otherwise noted for life-sized sculptures. The City will insure the artwork against vandalism, theft, or damage caused by motor vehicles, but will not be liable for degradation from normal wear and tear or weathering. Artists will receive a $750 honorarium upon on-time delivery on September 17, 2021, plus two nights lodging in a local hotel. If artwork is not installed by September 17, 2021, the artist will forfeit the honorarium.
Community members will vote for a People's Choice Award, with a $1,000 prize awarded to the selected artist. If artwork is sold as a result of being on display, the City will process the sale and retain 20% as commission. Installation will be part of the Alamosa ARTs Festival on September 17-18, 2021, which includes an artist's reception and community events. The City will promote and advertise the artwork throughout the display period.
