About This Call

The 1st Annual Statewide Juried Photography Exhibit provides a venue for Hawaii photographers and their work. Eligibility is limited to full-time residents of Hawaii. If you do not reside full-time in Hawaii but are a legal resident, proof of a current, valid Hawaii driver's license is required. Hawaii residence will be verified prior to sending work to jurors. No refund will be given if you submit and are then found to not be a full-time resident of Hawaii.

Submissions must be made digitally through the CAFE Portal. Images should be labeled as follows: Lastname_Firstname_Title_ImageNumber. Maximum file size is 5 MB, and files should be in either Adobe RGB (1998) or sRGB color space. Do not submit watermarked images. Artists may submit a maximum of five entries, with a $15 non-refundable entry fee for each submission. Four categories are available: Landscape (including nightscape), Flora & Fauna of Hawaii, Hawaii Lifeways (images illustrating traditional and current viewpoints of Hawaiian culture, including portraiture), and Alternative Photography (drone-still photography, underwater photography, cell phone photography, and abstract photography). No nudity, violence, controversial political or religious statements are allowed.

The submission window closes Friday, June 11, at 5:59 PM (HST). Artist notification is June 16. Drop-off of accepted artwork at Wailoa Center is Monday, July 5, between 10:00am-12:00pm. Kona pick-up at Donkey Mill is Friday, July 2, at 10:00am. Off-island work must be received by Thursday, July 1. Artists are financially responsible for shipping to and from Wailoa Center. Packages must include a prepaid return label and a $10 handling fee. The exhibition opens Friday, July 9, with an open house from 1:00pm-6:00pm. The exhibition closes Thursday, July 29. Artists must pick up work Friday, July 30, between 10:00am-2:00pm.

Monetary prizes will be awarded. Each category will have First Place, Second Place, and Honorable Mention winners. Cash prizes will be awarded for First Place winners; prizes for other winning levels to be notified later. Works must be for sale, and HIAA will charge 20% commission on all sales. Jurors are Tom Kuali'i, David Ulrich, and Jack Jeffrey.
