About This Call

The 2020 Taos Plein Air Juried Members Online Exhibition is a juried show and sale of original two-dimensional plein air artworks presented by the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico (PAPNM) and hosted by E. L. Blumenschein Museum in Taos, New Mexico. The online exhibition runs from July 18 – August 30, 2020, in cooperation with Taos Museums and PAPNM. PAPNM is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting painting "en plein air" - in the open air or outdoors. The E. L. Blumenschein House and Museum is one of New Mexico's most prestigious museums, celebrating the life and art of Ernest L. Blumenschein, Mary Shepherd Greene Blumenschein, and their daughter Helen, and commemorating the formation of the Taos Society of Artists.

This call is for all current PAPNM members working in two-dimensional media limited to oil (traditional and water-mixable), wet media (acrylic, watercolor, and gouache), and dry media (pastel). PAPNM membership for 2020 must be current with dues paid in full before submitting an entry. All work must have been completed at least 80% en plein air within the last two years (2018-2020) and created north of I-40 in New Mexico. Works produced on pre-printed substrates are strictly forbidden. Work done under instructor guidance is not eligible. Works shown in any previous PAPNM juried member exhibition are not eligible.

Entry fee is $47. A maximum of three images may be submitted, but no more than two paintings will be accepted for exhibition. Maximum size per piece is 192 square inches unframed (12"x16"). Artwork must be available for sale with a minimum retail price of $300 (including shipping costs). Notification of acceptance or decline will be sent by email by June 28. Awards include Best of Show ($350), Award of Excellence ($200), Historic Masters Award ($100), and Figurative, Architectural, Enchanted Sky, and Honorable Mention categories with cash and merchandise. The judge of awards is Lyn Boyer, an internationally acclaimed artist. Jurors of selection are Jane Hunt, Richard Alan Nichols, and Rob Nightingale. E. L. Blumenschein Museum will handle all gallery sales and collect payments from customers. Artists are responsible for all packing, shipping, and insurance costs.
