About This Call
The City of Albuquerque Public Art Urban Enhancement Division seeks small, medium, and large scale works of art made by New Mexico artists juried into the 2020 Santa Fe Indian Market (SWAIA). The committee is looking for works that exhibit compelling craftsmanship and technique in historically rich media including painting, drawing, printmaking, pottery, jewelry, textile weavings, sculpture, beadwork, basketry, and figurative miniature (Kachina and Storyteller figures suitable for public display).
Completed 2-D works must be a minimum of 12" to a side and a maximum of 55" to a side. 3-D works should not exceed 60" in any one dimension. Two-dimensional works must be appropriately framed in new condition and ready for immediate display, with all framing materials museum quality. For drawing, mixed-media, and print work: substrate and mat must be 100% cotton rag with a minimum 2-inch mat all around, acid-free museum quality backing and mounting, simple profile frame stock (1.5" or larger depth), and Plexiglass protective covering. Paintings on canvas must be glazed under glass or Plexiglass with security hangers (no wires). Artwork must be appropriate for public display at City facilities and cannot include subject matter depicting violence, inappropriate nudity, denigration of individuals or cultures, or desecration of significant cultural symbols. Religious subject matter or symbols may be included if not in a location where it can be revered and is solely for exhibiting cultural or historical traditions.
$50,000 is available to purchase artworks for the City of Albuquerque Public Art Collection, with the Arts Board hoping to purchase works priced within an average range of $500 to $10,000. Eligibility is limited to legal residents of New Mexico juried into the 2020 Santa Fe Indian Market (SWAIA). City employees and their families are eligible to submit works up to $1,000 if juried into the 2020 market. Artists must be 18 years of age or older. Submit a statement or description of proposed works (not to exceed 500 words), proof of acceptance into the 2020 Santa Fe Indian Market (SWAIA), and up to two artwork submissions for consideration. Proof of New Mexico Tax Identification may be required for payment processing.
