2020 Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival

The Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival is organized by the Wallkill River School, a 501(c)3 non-profit art school and fine art gallery located in Montgomery, NY. The festival is a juried exhibition open to all painters in all mediums. Up to 30 artists will be selected to participate. The festival includes artist awards and an opportunity to sell work created during the event. Artists may paint at locations of their choosing within the Hudson Valley map provided. The festival concludes with an exhibition and sale of paintings created during the festival. A 30% commission on all artwork sold will be retained by the Wallkill River School.

Entry fee is $45 ($35 early bird by July 1 with Coupon Code 2020). Applicants must submit an artist biography and three digital images of original plein air artwork created within the past two years. All paintings must be created en plein air during the event, with a maximum canvas or paper size of 18" x 24". Only artwork with a stamp will be permitted in the exhibition and sale. All submitted artwork must be available for sale. At least one painting and no more than four paintings from each artist are due at artwork drop off. All artwork must be framed appropriately with wire on the back; gallery wrapped canvases will not be accepted. Selected artists will be notified by August 31, 2020.

Artist check-in and canvas stamping occurs October 13 at 4:00 pm. Artwork drop off is October 17 at 4:30-6:30 pm. The public show and sale is October 18 from 4:00-6:00 pm. Artwork pick up is November 3 from 12:30-5:00 pm. Up to 2 artwork pieces can become part of a special traveling exhibit in public places in Orange County from November 4, 2020 through April 5, 2021, with final pick up on April 21, 2021. Award categories include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, plus location-specific awards (Best Audubon Site Painting, Best BashaKill Painting, Best Greenwood Lake Painting, Best Goshen Painting, Best Nocturne) and Quickdraw awards. Artist housing is not available for 2020.
