2020 Hawaii Nei

2020 Hawaii Nei is an exhibition open to Hawaiʻi Island artists in all mediums and styles. The main subject of artwork must be a species native to Hawaiʻi Island, including both indigenous and endemic species. Native species found only on other islands will not be accepted. All species found from ridge to reef on the island are acceptable; subjects from beyond the reef, including the deep ocean, will not be accepted. Artwork highlighting non-native species, including Polynesian introductions, will not be accepted. Artwork made from endangered species will not be accepted.

Submission deadline is Friday, October 16 at 7:00 PM. Entry fee is $15 per submission, with a maximum of five entries per artist. Work sample requirements: 1-5 images. Artist notification is Monday, October 19. Accepted artwork drop-off is Friday, October 30 at 10:00 AM at Donkey Mill Art Center or Saturday, October 31 between 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Wailoa Center. The exhibition opens Friday, November 6 and closes Thursday, December 10. Artists must pick up work Friday, December 11 at 10:00 AM from Donkey Mill Art Center or between 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM from Wailoa Center.

Monetary prizes will be awarded. All selected adult entries are required to be for sale; youth entries are not. If artwork is sold during the exhibition, 60% goes to the artist and 40% goes to the Hawaiʻi Island Art Alliance and the Three Mountain Alliance Foundation to support fine arts in the community as well as native species protection and environmental education.
