About This Call
Form, Not Function is an annual juried exhibition of contemporary quilt art held at the Carnegie Center for Art & History in New Albany, Indiana. The exhibit is open to artists age 18 or older living in the United States. All works must be quilted (two or more distinct layers held together with stitches). The layers may include fiber and textile materials, but other techniques and mediums are acceptable as long as the work is quilted. Works must be original and completed since January 1, 2017, with no minimum or maximum size. Works must be ready to hang on the wall, including the hanging rod. Three-dimensional works are eligible if ready to exhibit on the floor, on a pedestal, or with hardware for wall display. Collaborative works made by multiple artists are eligible.
The entry fee is $35.00 for up to three works (represented by up to 6 images). Entries are accepted online only through www.callforentry.org. For each work entered, submit two digital images: one full view showing all edges and one detail view showing stitching and details. Images must be of the actual completed artwork with black, white, gray, or earth tone backgrounds with no text. Include title, media, dimensions, and price with each image. Submit the completed application, correct entry fee, artist statement, and biography (each 3,000 characters maximum) by June 20, 2020 at 11:59:59 PM Mountain Time Zone. Artists will be notified of acceptance on July 7, 2020. No more than one work by an artist will be selected.
Accepted works should arrive at the Carnegie Center from July 18 – August 1, 2020. The exhibition runs August 15 – October 31, 2020. Works will be available for pickup on November 9, 2020 and shipped on or about November 9 - 16, 2020. Over $2,000 in cash awards are offered, including $1,000 for Best of Show. The exhibit is juried by a rotating panel of fiber artists and experts who consider originality, design, technique, and craftsmanship. The Carnegie Center will insure all works from arrival until departure. Artists are responsible for shipping costs and must enclose a pre-paid return-shipping label. The Carnegie Center retains a 40% commission on any work sold during the exhibition or resulting from mediation by Carnegie Center staff.
